I’m pretty sure the “Save the Date” concept is mostly American because in the UK (and the rest of Europe as far as I know) we just have the official wedding invitation (or birthday invitation) with the RSVP card – No pre-warning fun with postcards or magnets! Not sure why we haven’t caught on to it though… When I get married we will be having save the date magnets and other goodies
